Botches
- The Women’s Triple Threat Tag Team Match was not the best match we’ve seen from the women lately, but it was stacked with some of the least convincing fighters on the roster. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville looked like they were in a different class than the rest of these women. Naomi is a great athlete, but her moveset looks like a dance routine and few of the moves seem as though they are capable of hurting anyone.
Bodyslams
- Becky Lynch’s smirk carries an entire segment.
- Eric Rowan’s Facepalm Slam is great to watch, especially when executed on a guy like Mustafa Ali who can make it seem even more devastating.
- Daniel Bryan and Samoa Joe both showed why they are often elevated to the status of the best talkers in the business.
This episode of Smackdown Live had some great matches and entertaining segments. Even the weakest parts of the show were able to keep my interest. The tag team match between Gallows and Anderson and Rusev and Nakamura was a great way to start the show. Randy Orton and Mustafa Ali tore the house down, and Ali came out with an ugly eye injury. I’m hoping that looks a lot worse than it is and he won’t be missing the Elimination Chamber Match. There was more talking and fewer matches than I like to see, but that’s the norm when you give Triple H a microphone in the opening segment. The man has an impressive skillset, but brevity is not on the list. Giving Daniel Bryan carte blanche on the microphone and and stuffing the show with vignettes to lead into Elimination Chamber doesn’t leave room for many matches. But the four matches had stories and talent that made it all work out.
