Winter Jam rocks Charleston West Virginia, raises $50K for The Union Mission
Winter Jam kicked their 2013 east coast tour Friday to thousands of excited fans at the Charleston Civic Center in West Virginia.
TobyMac took the stage last, but the night of worship is making headlines by raising and donating $51, 797.51 to The Union Mission.
The post on their Facebook page says “All we can say is Wow. God is Good. He knows just what we need and when we need it. We don’t have the final numbers from Winter Jam but we want to thank everyone for their kindness.”
“I like what Winter Jam does,” TobyMac said in an interview leading up to the show. “They do it big and for $10 anybody can walk through the door, even if they’re just a little curious about the music and the performers.”
Former American Idol contestant Jason Castro sang while the audience was encouraged to donate to a love offering.
Organizers said for the first time in the history of the event, the money collected during the offering would be given to an organization that gives back to the community of Charleston.
The Union Mission, the motto is “We Feed People. It’s What We Do,” is a West Virginia outreach that provides shelter, clothing, food, counseling, and structured programs for the poor, the needy, and those bound and bruised by addictive lifestyles.
Next stop for Winter Jam: Jacksonville and Tampa in Florida, then on to Mobile, Alabama to close out this weekend.
