William Aydelott found competent, closer to standing trial for brutal murder of his mother, Sharon Aydelott
A Florida man who murdered his mother is competent enough to stand trial, his doctors say.
William Aydelott, 20, has been undergoing treatment at Florida State Hospital since his mother’s death. Sharon Aydelott was beaten and stabbed on Christmas Eve in 2013. Aydelott has been in and out of a state mental hospital in Chattahoochee since he was first deemed incompetent to stand trial in January of 2014.
The defense has asked for Aydelott to be evaluated again and the State Attorney’s Office says that’s in the process. His next court date is scheduled for July 19.
Aydelott was 17 when he brutally murdered his mother. He hadn’t lived with her for a couple of months.
The popular teacher found with the kitchen knife still in her eye on Christmas Eve and blood smeared on the front door of her home. William Aydelott was found at a nearby house three hours later, the NWF Daily News reports. His clothing was clean, but police found a spot of dried blood on his wrist.
A 911 tape released reveals it was Sharon Aydelott’s estranged husband who found the brutal murder scene inside her home.
“Somebody is hurt real bad here though and I need somebody to get here as fast as they can get here please,” said William Randall Aydelott. The dispatcher tried to help him remain calm in front of his daughter. “Are you with them now?” “No, I’ve got my little girl and I’m trying to get her to the neighbor’s house.”
