Will Wallace discusses the ‘Doonby’ message, twist, forging friendships, his film ‘Red Wing’ and ‘The Appearing’
A new film starring John Scheider, Ernie Hudson and Joe Estevez is set to arrive this week and Doonby may surprise viewers with its powerful message and twists.
Talking with The Global Dispatch, co-star Will Wallace (The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life) discussed the film and many of his other projects.
“The message,” Wallace said was the most appealing aspect of the new film directed by Peter Mackenzie about how a man’s life can impact those around him while answering the larger question of one’s worth. (Watch the movie trailer below)
“It’s a message which I strongly believe in and it’s a strong part of the twist at the end.”
Wallace is excited to be a part of this thought provoking mystery and the “new friendships” which he forged during the production.
“John Schneider and I made plans to get together. Jenn (Gotzon) and I are reconnecting and I was pleased to meet Ernie and Rob (Robert Davi.),” Wallace explained. “Peter and I are talking about doing another movie together and you get a sense…a sense that these are friendships that will last.”
He then contrasted that to his six months of boot camp with the cast in The Thin Red Line.
“We say we are going to stay in contact, but I’ve lost touch with 99% percent of them,” Wallace says, noting close friend Jim Caviezel as the exception.
Wallace is extremely busy, directing a the new film Red Wing starring Bill Paxtion, Frances Fisher, Luke Perry and a ton of “up and comers.”
“Forty-four of the cast members are students of mine. I have a sense of pride…proud in a paternal sense of what wonderful progress they made,” Wallace recounted.
He is referring to the Will Wallace Acting Company, which “has been training actors of ten years,” growing by word of mouth according to Wallace.
“It was a great comfort using them in films,” he says. “I know their strengths, their weaknesses and they are great team players with a great love of the craft.”
Additionally, Wallace’s new film, The Appearing, with director Daric Gates, is screening around the US.
“It’s about spiritual warfare, billed as a scary movie,” he explains.
The Appearing stars Dean Cain, Wallace, Don Swayze, Quinton Aaron and Emily Brooks.
Red Wing opened in October in the US with The Appearing screening in select locations all over the US.
