Why You Should Watch The English Premier League

I didn’t move to the United States until I was 7 years old and whilst I do consider myself an American, there are many parts of Britain which have stayed in my soul, football or soccer being one of them. I have always had trouble in the States trying to find others who love the English Premier League like I do and usually on a weekend it is just me and my buddy Steve Buzzi who go to each other’s houses to watch the weekend’s games. I wanted therefore, to write a quick piece on why the English game is so good, and why you should watch it.

Anyone Can Win

Ok so if you are not aware of what happened in the 2015/16 season, there was a club called Leicester City, a small club with little money who, in the year before, almost got relegated to the league below. The club managed to find some kind of magic an put a team together which would destroy the league and they went on to win the title in a miraculous campaign. This is the magic of the league, anyone can win any given game and the minnows will regularly scalp the big boys.

Hardest League

Because of the fact that just about anyone can win any game, this becomes one of the most competitive leagues in the world, if not the most competitive. In Spain, the title comes down to Barcelona and Real Madrid, in France it is always PSG and in Germany Bayern Munich and Dortmund usually battle it out. In England however, there are up to 5 or 6 teams who could win the league and this creates so much excitement.

Manager’s

Currently the Premier League has the best managers in the world working in it with Guardiola, Klopp, Pochettino, Conte, Mourinho and Arsene Wenger all plying their trade. This league is the ultimate test of your managerial skills and the fact that the league is blessed with so many is simply incredible.

Fans

With the exception of some of the big German clubs, the fans in England are like nowhere else in the world and even the smallest team in the league will attract 25,000 people to its stadium for a home game. The fans add to the incredible atmosphere of the games in the Premier League and amongst their singing and chanting, they turn the game into a real spectacle.

Players

In general, the best players in the world are playing in this league. Messi and Ronaldo, Neymar and Bale may be elsewhere but with players like Sanchez, Aguero, De Bruyne, Kane, Alli, Ibrahimovic, Lukaku and Rooney, there are few leagues in the world with such a rich collection of the world’s best players. Players are tested in this league more than in others and if you can play in this league and still be considered one of the best, it is a sign of just how awesome this league really is.
