White House event about free speech on college campuses: ADF attorney to participate

Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Tyson Langhofer, director of the ADF Center for Academic Freedom, will offer remarks Thursday during a panel concerning crises on college campuses as part of a White House forum. Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway will moderate the panel, one of two making up “Generation Next: A White House Forum.” Langhofer will also be available for media interviews following the forum.

President Trump will be interviewed on stage between the two panels. The “Crisis on College Campuses” panel will follow the president’s Q&A session. Preceding the president’s Q&A will be an “Economic Opportunity” panel moderated by White House Director of Strategic Communications Mercedes Schlapp. Both panels will feature administration officials.

“Today’s college students are tomorrow’s judges, legislators, teachers, and voters,” said Langhofer. “Yet public universities are not only failing to educate the next generation about their First Amendment freedoms, they are actively violating those rights and depriving the next generation from a diverse and rich marketplace of ideas. When it comes to public college and university campuses, the answer should always be more speech.”

According to the White House Office of Communications, the forum will “highlight the work the Trump administration has been doing to date on behalf of America’s next generation. Millennials make up over a quarter of the U.S. population and are continuing to shape public discourse and policy.”

The event is open to the media or can be viewed by anyone via the White House live stream.
