Where You Should NOT Travel For the Holidays

Being able to travel the world is one of the best benefits of being a free citizen. The world has many interesting places to visit. It can be inspiring and awesome to travel and visit some of the most iconic places on the face of the earth. However, not every country and city in the world can offer its citizens and visitors the security and safety that America does. As such, it is wise to avoid certain countries and cities where danger is heightened for one reason or another. Here are some of the top places you should not travel for the holidays.

Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is in a large part of Africa’s west coast. This country is surrounded by Guinea and Liberia, and is near the Ivory Coast. It is a beautiful spot in the world to visit. However, recent years the United States has cautioned American travelers against traveling to Sierra Leone. The reason is that, as recent as August 2015, there were new cases of the Ebola virus cropping up throughout the region. The Ebola virus is extremely contagious, and currently there is no effective cure. Right now, Sierra Leone is not recommended as a holiday travel spot.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a hugely populated country that is very interesting for world travelers. The cultural atmosphere in Bangladesh is extremely colorful, and this country attracts visitors from the world over each year. Unfortunately, as of November 2015, Bangladesh has been a center for terrorist activities. There have been multiple terrorist attacks that have affected both the citizens of Bangladesh and other visitors to the area. At this time, Bangladesh is best left off the holiday travel list.

Kenya

Kenya has been attractive to travelers who are interested in the wild kingdom. Kenya is perhaps best known for its roaming herds of lions and elephants, gazelles and other African wildlife. Each year, visitors from around the world come to Kenya to experience the quintessential African safari. Unfortunately, terrorism has taken hold in Kenya just as it has in other parts of the world. Certain terrorist groups have made Kenya a very dangerous place for travelers to visit. Although the security forces in Kenya have struggled to make it safe for travelers, at this time, it may be best to choose a different country or city for your holiday plans.

Cartel-Land-PosterMexico

Mexico City has one of the highest crime rates in the entire world. Although many people travel to Mexico to the beautiful sun-kissed resorts that are popular with American citizens, even resorts like this are not immune to violence and other crime. Driving in Mexico is a different cultural experience, but it shouldn’t be one that costs the travelers their lives. At this time, Mexico is not a recommended travel destination for travelers.

Turkey

The Turkish capital of Istanbul has been a popular travel destination for many years. Many tourist companies still operate, bringing tourists to Istanbul and surrounding areas so that world travelers can experience the unique culture and historical significance that turkey offers. Unfortunately, Turkey has been a target for terror activity due to its closeness to Iraq and Syria. Overflow from these violent, war-torn countries has impacted Turkey, and they have been experiencing a cauldron of political unrest that makes this country an unsafe place to visit, at least for the time being.

It’s important to realize that time can play a huge part in the safety of the location for travel. In the future, all these destinations may be perfectly safe to visit for American citizens and travelers worldwide. For the time being, however, it is safer to stay away.
