What does the Liberty Movement believe?
While the new liberals and the new conservatives believe in upholding the status quo of bigger government both domestically and internationally, the people who traveled from all areas of the country to come to the Paul Festival in Tampa came to celebrate the idea of liberty.
To many, they may not understand this idea that has become the cornerstone of a movement that thousands, if not millions of people are flocking to.
On Saturday, The Independent Institute’s Anthony Gregory very eloquently laid out the general beliefs of the modern liberty movement.
We believe that people have a right to keep what they earn. Period.
We believe that people have the right to pursue any peaceful and consensual path of exchange to make a living.
We believe people have the right to control their bodies.
We believe that the State has no right to detain, or kill, or imprison or torture people just because it says so.
We believe that all individuals have rights, regardless of any of these groupings- gender, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation.
Individuals have rights, not groups. Not business groups, not political groups, not ethnic groups and sure as hell not governments.
We believe the Golden Rule as Ron Paul boldly pointed out should apply to war too. The empire as we know it must be dismantled entirely.
We believe that individual liberty and personal responsibility are not two sides of the same coin, they’re the same thing exactly- so the welfare state must be dismantled.
We believe that since half the economy is money, and we believe in an honest economy so that money should be honest- so the Fed needs to be destroyed.
We believe the institutions of civil society, property rights, the right to bear arms do more to protect law and order than all the police in the world.
We believe that more wars, edicts, controls , power-grabs, laws, regulations, taxes, torture, weapons of mass destruction do not pave the way to any future worth striving for.
Instead, we believe people have a right to own themselves, to live as they wish as long as they do not use force and fraud against others, and no state has the right to strip that away from any individual-not the local government, not the federal government, no international officials, nobody.
And there are a lot of us that believe this. More people believe this than in any time in my lifetime.
