Virginia: Tavarus Gray arrested for Corey Baker murder
A Virginia man has been arrested early Tuesday for the Sunday shooting and death of Corey Lovell Baker. A new press release detailed the arrest of Tavarus A. Gray Jr. without incident just after midnight.
Gray, 21, was transported to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail and charged with the murder of Baker, 30, who died at 2:34 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Nansemond Parkway. The actual charges are second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Suffolk spokesperson Diana Klink said that “Police officers did attempt medical efforts as soon as they did come upon that scene. Unfortunately when the EMS folks arrived the subject was declared deceased.”
Klink said the shooting was an isolated incident.
“We know that there was a verbal altercation that had ensued prior to the actual shooting incident, so the subjects were to known to one another,” Klink said.
Klink credited the neighbors who helped bring an early identification of Gray as the suspected gunman.
“Certainly is most helpful when someone does see something that they say something and thankfully that’s what had transpired with his particular incident,” Klink said.
Gray is scheduled for an arraignment in Suffolk General District on November 13.
The shooting is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
