The vote was 94-3.
Once sworn-in, Kerry will replace Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is stepping down after four years. The vote came just hours after the Foreign Relations Committee approved his nomination by voice vote.
Just 3 Republicans voted against his nomination — Texas Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn and Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe.
Kerry voted “present” on his confirmation.
“Sen. Kerry is uniquely qualified to serve as the next secretary of state,” Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) said on the Senate floor prior to the vote, noting that Kerry’s personal history as the son of a diplomat as well as his deep knowledge of international affairs as well as his relationships with diplomats.
Menendez is set to succeed Kerry as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.
RECENTLY, I FOUND-OUT Secretary John Kerry’s (D) TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT IN THE U.S. SENATE IS A NEGRO MALE – Senator “Mo” Cowans (D-MA). I E-MAILED C-SPAN AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE FACT THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE NO FOCUS ON Senator Cowans’ ACTIVITIES IN THE SENATE. C-SPAN RETURNED-REPLIED; ON C-SPAN’S WEBSITE, I FOUND A MULTI-HOUR SENATE HEARING AND A FOUR-MINUTE VIDEO-CLIP [which I could not get to play] OF THE SENATOR. ONLINE, I FOUND-OUT Senator Cowans WILL NOT SEEK A TERM IN HIS OWN RIGHT. HMN ….. THAT WAS INTERESTING. [One would think in this age of the Kenyan, blacks would want to SCREAM to the world that they have “talent,” too].
IN THIS AGE OF HIGHLIGHTING NEGRO PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNMENT, ONE WOULD ASSUME Senators “Mo” Cowan AND Tim Scott (R-SC; ANOTHER “temporary”), WOULD BE “HOUSEHOLD NAMES.”
