University Area CDC Presenting 20th Anniversary Gala: A Masquerade Affair

The University Area CDC will hold its 20th Anniversary Gala: A Masquerade Affair, presented by Florida Hospital Tampa, on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 10 p.m. Katie McCall, WTSP-TV 10 anchor, will serve as host.

A Masquerade Affair will feature an art gallery with live art demonstrations by popular artist Junior Polo, a silent auction, live music and performances, 20th anniversary dinner and celebration, dancing, a martini and dessert bar, and cigars under the stars. Among the entertainment will be musicians Freddy Montes, Florida Orchestra violinist Michelle Painter, pianist Frank Meekins, lyricist Desmond Roman, aerialists from the Shinobi School, Ellis Jay Music, vocalist Lena Morisseau, percussionist Fignole Desir, Busch Gardens stilt walkers and strolling characters, and dancer Alvin Desir.

Funds raised from this event will benefit the University Area CDC’s Neighborhood Transformation Strategy, a holistic community development model that enables residents to become change agents to improve the economic and social conditions of their community.

“This year’s 20th anniversary gala will raise money for our efforts to transform the neighborhood, through affordable new homes that we’ll be building starting this year. We believe that by empowering residents to become agents of change, the community will not only grow, but economic and social conditions will also improve,” said Sarah Combs, executive director of University Area CDC.

Ticket purchases and more information for the event, held at the University Area Community Center at 14013 N. 22nd St. in Tampa, are available by calling 813.558.5212 and by visiting www.uacdc.org/gala.

Celebrating its 20th year of serving the community, University Area Community Development Corporation (CDC) offers support for thousands of Tampa residents through youth programs, adult education and resource assistance. Its primary mission is the redevelopment and sustainability of the at-risk areas surrounding University of South Florida’s Tampa campus.
