Two cases of human bird flu confirmed in SW China

Coming on the heels of the report of the sixth human case of avian influenza, or bird flu in Cambodia in 2013, Chinese health officials are confirming two cases of the potentially lethal viral disease n southwestern city of Guiyang, according to a Xinhua report Feb. 10.

Specifics on the cases according to the report include a 21-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, who developed symptoms on Feb. 2 and Feb 3, respectively, tested positive for H5N1 virus on Sunday, according to health officials.

Both victims are currently in critical condition. There is no known connection between the two patients and neither are known to have had contact with birds, according to the findings of the investigation.
