Tucson murder suicide: Yolanda Eberts killed by boyfriend Bryant Smith, who was found dead in his car
Tucson homicide detectives are investigating an apparent murder-suicide on Tucson’s east side and now have identified the couple as Yolanda Eberts and Bryant Smith.
Sgt. Pete Dugan, the department’s information officer, said the incident took place at Canyon Creek Apartments on 160 North Pantano Road on Saturday morning. Eberts, 52, and Smith, 48, lived together in the apartment complex.
Officers responded to emergency calls at 8:20 a.m., about a woman in her 50s found deceased in an apartment from apparent gun shot trauma.
Family members of the woman found her when visiting the apartment and made the call to authorities, Dugan said.
Before officers arrived, another emergency call from the family was placed after the deceased woman’s boyfriend was seen unresponsive in his vehicle. When officers arrived at the complex, the found Smith in his car with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers then went into the apartment and found Eberts with obvious signs of gunshot trauma. She was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say it appears that Smith shot Ebert before taking his own life. Detectives are working to determine what led up to the shooting.
