Trump’s tax return revelation: Not much there, too much taxes paid

I wasted an hour of my life watching the Rachel Maddow show last night for the huge revelation of two-pages of President Donald Trump’s 2005 tax return.

Apparently, the pages were left in the mailbox of a reporter named David Cay Johnson.

While I watched the host and her guests try to connect dots that really weren’t there for an entire hour (painful), there were some definitive facts drawn from it–Mr Trump, at least in 2005, paid an awful lot in federal taxes (It’s not clear how much state and local taxes he paid that year.)

He paid $38 million in taxes on income of more than $150 million in 2005, or roughly 25 percent! Even socialist Senator Bernie Sanders, who wants the government “free” this and “free” that, paid about 13 percent of his 2014 income (Remember that even Sander’s supporters wouldn’t pay more in taxes for “free” health care).

That seems like an awful lot to me.

Now I’m not a “Trumpeter” and I will not go overboard over this revelation since I have no clue what he paid in other years, but clearly the 2005 return shows he paid a lot.

In 2005, Mr Trump’s taxes paid could have taken care of the following federal expenditures: $6,285,000 for wood utilization research; $3,973,000 for shrimp aquaculture research; $1,790,000 for berry research; $1,108,000 for alternative salmon products; $250,000 for asparagus technology; $469,000 for the National Wild Turkey Federation; $300,000 for wool research; $1,000,000 for mobile computers for Wasilla police cars; $3,000,000 for the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation; $1,500,000 for the Allen Telescope Array at the University of California, Berkley. This telescope is part of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute (SETI); $1,000,000 for Brown Tree Snakes for in the 2005 Defense Appropriations Act; $400,000 for educational outreach for the Washington Opera; $1,700,000 for the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC); a $12,000,000 grant to the University of Maryland for a homeland security program with eight professors and finally, a $3,000,000 fitness facility for House of Representatives staff.

Of course, that was just an illustration, but you get the picture. That is an awful lot of money to give to Washington for who knows what, no matter how much is your income.
