When it comes to treating your windows, there are a lot of options to choose from. Some people like netting, for instance, and others like curtains or blinds. Some even prefer a combination of the three. Vertical blinds have increased in popularity over the years, but they are not for everybody. If you are considering vertical blinds, then you have to make a few considerations.

Top Tips

What kind of window do you have? If your window is small, then vertical blinds aren’t the right choice. If you have a very large window, or a sliding door, on the other hand, they are the perfect option. Vertical panes create a relaxing illusion of space. Interior designers also use them because they enhance large windows’ functional and decorative purposes. You can choose from a range of different colors, styles, and looks. In fact, you have so many options available that you may feel slightly overwhelmed by it. And the reality is also that if you choose wrong, your room will look terrible. Luckily, with the following top tips, you should be able to avoid a fashion faux-pas.

  1. Think material. You have to make sure that the material of your vertical blinds matches that of your theme and the look you want to create. In a corporate office, for instance, pastel will probably look out of place, whereas vinyl blinds in a light color look very professional.
  2. Think room. If you install your blinds in your living room, for instance, fabric and wood is probably the best material. This looks warm, natural, and inviting. However, if you want them in your kitchen, you will need something that is resistant to moisture.
  3. Think opacity. It is possible to pick a blind that completely blocks the light out, which is perfect for bedrooms, for instance. However, if you have a gorgeous view that you want to enjoy, simply diffusing the light a little bit, then a sheer fabric is much better.
  4. Think energy. The minute you install blinds in your homes, you will have a better insulated properly. This means that you will reduce your energy bills and lower your carbon footprint because you don’t use as many fossil fuels. If you have a home that loses a lot of heat, perhaps because it is old and has drafty windows, then you need something with heavier materials, that insulates even better.
  5. Think sound. Not only do window blinds insulate your property, protecting it from heat loss, they also help to block out sound. If you live in a flat, for instance, and have wood floors, then having blinds with a heavier material will help you to lower the echoing sounds in your home. Similarly, if you live next to a busy street, the heavier the material, the more outdoor sounds you will be able to block out.

These are five of the main things to take into consideration when you choose your vertical blinds. There are many other things to think about as well, such as color, style, and more, but those are mainly down to personal taste.
