Tom Hardy becomes a demon in ‘Venom’ trailers, first photos and poster tease fans
“We are VENOM!”
Sony Pictures has released the official teaser trailer for Venom, and technically, it’s two teasers as one is noted as “international” even though the footage is the same, as fans get a look at Tom Hardy, but not as Venom, the titular antihero.
Fans get their first official looks at four time Academy Award-nominee Michelle Williams, Primetime Emmy-winner Riz Ahmed, Reid Scott and other cast members.
Watch the official trailer and the official international trailer below.
In the comics, Spider-Man comes into contact with an alien symbiote. That symbiote gives him special powers like increased strength and unlimited web-fluid. However, it also causes increased aggression. When Spider-Man gets rid of the symbiote, it finds his rival Eddie Brock, latches onto him, and Brock becomes Venom, which is why Venom has Spider-Man’s powers and resembles a grotesque version of the webslinger.
Ahmed (Jason Bourne, Rogue One) has already been confirmed as Carlton Drake, and his company has been reinvented as a pharmaceutical firm that’s conducting illegal tests. It seems likely that Brock will cause problems for Ahmed, and become an unwilling participant in Drake’s experiments.
The Life Foundation first appeared in Marvel comics in 1988 in an Amazing Spider-Man issue created by David Michelinie and Todd McFarlane. The group believed that the Cold War would end in a nuclear holocaust, and they aimed to keep their rich clients alive and safe in a giant fall-out shelter. To protect them, the Life Foundation used the Venom Symbiote to created five new creatures named Agony, Phage, Riot, Lasher and Scream: FIVE symbiotes.
Reid Scott is listed as Patrick Mulligan, a police officer who ultimately becomes the RED symbiote named Carnage. Michelle Lee is Donna Diego, a yellow and red creepy symbiote named Scream. What is strange is that IMDB listed Sailor Larocque as Donna Diego/Scream, so perhaps there is more to this story or Sailor is doing the motion capture part.
Zombieland and Gangster Squad filmmaker Ruben Fleischer to direct the new film, scripted by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner and Kelly Marcel and Will Beal. Scott Haze also stars with Jenny Slate, Mac Brandt, Sam Medina and Gail Gamble.
Woody Harrelson has an undisclosed role and Tom Holland is expected to make cameo, likely as Peter Parker, not as Spidey.
Venom arrives in theaters October 5, 2018.
Here’s the official logline for Venom:
