Three Virginia stores robbed overnight, Clarence Roby first suspect arrested
Police report that they have one suspect in police custody in connection to one of stores robbed early Wednesday morning.
Clarence Roby, 36, stood lookout for one robbery, catching the man on surveillance footage. Roby walked into the store at 1:30 a.m., and went directly into the bathroom. He then walked around the store, and exited without taking anything. Roby stayed in the 7-Eleven parking lot for another 20 minutes, and was seen speaking with the robber just minutes prior to the incident.
Police say that Roby stood at the edge of the parking lot as a lookout while the other man ran into the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint.
According to police, the two men left on foot after the robbery, but were chased by an eye-witness who was in the store at the time. The witness was able to catch Roby.
Roby has been charged with robbery, use of a fire arm in commission of a felony, conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to use a firearm in the commission of a felony.
He is now being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
The Smithfield incident was one of three 7-Eleven stores that was robbed overnight.
In Norfolk, a clerk was shot at the 7-Eleven on Chesapeake Boulevard. That 7-Eleven has released video of the incident from inside the store.
In Virginia Beach, a man robbed the 7-Eleven on Edwin Drive near Mt. Trashmore around 2:10 a.m. without a weapon by shoving an employee out of the way, grabbed money and ran from the store.
