‘The Secret Life of Pets 2’ Review: A charming sequel for all ages

The Secret Life of Pets 2 is a sequel to the 2016 movie of the same name. In this sequel, Louis C.K. has been replaced by Patton Oswalt (Young Adult, A.P. Bio) as the voice of Max. Returning is Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) as Duke and Ellie Kemper (The Office, Bridesmaids) as Katie.

Katie meets and falls in love with Chuck voiced by Pete Holmes (Crashing). Through a short series of time jumps we gather they married, became pregnant and now have a little boy name Liam. Max starts exhibiting neurotic behavior as he becomes over protective of “his” boy. After a trip to the vet, we see the family take a vacation to a family countryside farm. Here Max meets a farm dog named Rooster voiced by Harrison Ford (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark). Rooster helps Max work to overcome his fears.

When Max leaves for vacation, he asks Gidget voiced by Jenny Slate (Venom, Hotel Artemis) to watch his favorite toy. While she is playing with the squeaky toy, it bounces out of her window and ends up in the Crazy Cat Lady’s apartment.  With the help of Chloe, played by Lake Bell (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Home Again), the laughs continue as Gidget dresses like a cat and infiltrates the apartment to get Max’s toy.

While all this is going on we have Snowball voiced by Kevin Hart (The Upside, Night School) as his super hero alter ego. His mission is to rescue a white tiger named Hu from an abusive circus owner, voiced by Nick Kroll (Uncle Drew, The House).

Overall, the movie is great fun for the kids earning this movie a 7 out of 10 stars.
