‘The Lion King’ teaser, poster recreates the magic, nostalgia of the original film

Disney teased their upcoming Lion King live action film 91st Academy Awards on ABC, check out the clip below. There is also a new beautiful and nostalgic poster, it is at the bottom.

The footage centers around the re-imagining of Simba’s introduction at Pride Rock with just a few seconds of additional footage. James Earl Jones reprises his role as Mufasa with an all-star cast which includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa.

Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave, Doctor Strange) will lend his voice to Scar, the iconic villain. Alfre Woodard (Luke Cage) voicing Simba’s mom, Sarabi. Billy Eichner completes the the comedic duo with Rogen as Timon.

The remaining cast is John Oliver (Zazu), John Kani (Rafiki), Florence Kasumba (Shenzi), Eric André (Azizi), Keegan Michael Key(Kamari) with JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph will play young Simba and young Nala, respectively.

Jon Favreau will direct, working from a script by Jeff Nathanson, adapted from the 1994 screenplay by Irene Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts, and Linda Woolverton.

Favreau, Jeffrey Silver, and Karen Gilchrist are producing, with Tom Peitzman and Thomas Schumacher exec producing, and John Bartnicki co-producing.

The Lion King will hit theaters on July 19, 2019.

“From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa. Utilizing pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way, “The Lion King” roars into theaters on July 19, 2019.”
