‘The Americans’ season 2 gets the greenlight from Fox
After only four weeks, the FX Cold War drama The Americans has been renewed for a second season.
Deadline reported in a Feb. 21 report that Fox has ordered a 13-episode second season as the FX President praised the show’s strong start.
“The Americans has quickly established itself as a key part FX’s acclaimed drama line-up,” FX president John Landgraf said in a statement.
Debuting on January 30, The Americans stars Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell as two sleeper KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington D.C. in the early Eighties.
The show premiered strong with 3.22 million viewers, bettering debuts by fellow FX series Sons of Anarchy and American Horror Story.
Ratings for the second week initially saw a steep decline but Live +3 data brought the show’s viewership up to 3.11 million viewers.
Former CIA agent and Falling Skies scribe Joe Weisberg created the series and exec produces with Joel Fields, Graham Yost and Amblin TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank for Fox TV Studios and FX Prods.
The first season finale airs May 1.

That’s great news about The Americans getting the nod for a second so early in its run, and it’s an example of how much potential FX thinks the show has for the long-term. I work at DISH and several of my coworkers said it’s quickly becoming their favorite show. I will be catching up with The Americans over the weekend since I set a timer for the series on my DISH Hopper. I like to watch new shows several episodes at a time, and I can do that without needing to delete any of my other programs for space because my DVR holds up to 2,000 hours of entertainment.
