‘The Accountant’ director Gavin O’Connor set to helm ‘Suicide Squad 2’

Gavin O’Connor is on board to write the sequel to Suicide Squad, and is also in talks to direct the film that stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto. The shocking success of The Accountant would set to setup a perfect relationship for the sequel.

O’Connor directed Ben Affleck in The Accountant at Warner Bros. and the studio is already developing a sequel for which he and Affleck are expected to return.

Variety notes that “The movie is a top priority at Warner Bros. and looks to be one of the two DC properties (the other being New Line’s “Shazam!”) to begin production next year. Given the ensemble’s busy schedule, the shoot wasn’t expected to start until fall of 2018. So while there’s still time, the studio is eager to get someone on board to pen a script.”

David Ayer, who directed the first movie, will not be back despite the negative reviews and the film earning more then $745 million worldwide.

David Sandberg, the filmmaker behind the smash-hit horror film Lights Out and the upcoming prequel Annabelle: Creation is making his superhero debut on Shazam! which will star Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam.

On the other projects:  Wonder Woman 2 is still in the early treatment stage; The Flash still needs a director; and while Joss Whedon is indeed still writing and directing Batgirl, his duties overseeing post-production and re-shoots on Justice League now means he can’t move on to working on Batgirl until that film is released.

While promoting her recent film, I, Tonya, Robbie spoke with The Wrap, revealing that she expects to be back as the colorful villain, “I think next year I’ll be back in the fishnets wielding a baseball bat. I hope.
