‘Terminator’ reboot with ‘Deadpool’ director Tim Miller delayed, casts Diego Boneta in ‘key role’
Paramount has announced that Tim Miller’s upcoming Terminator sequel, which has James Cameron involved for the first time since 1991, has been moved back four months from Summer to Fall 2019. Additionally, Diego Boneta has been cast in a key role, joining Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049), Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton.
The Hollywood Reporter the news on Boneta’s casting in the new film, set to reunite Schwarzenegger and Hamilton for the first time since Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Tim Miller (Deadpool) is directing with James Cameron serving as a producer. While plot details remain under lock-and-key at Cyberdyne Systems, it has been confirmed that the movie will serve as a direct sequel to the aforementioned T2: Judgment Day.
Boneta’s resume includes Rock of Ages, Before I Fall, Pretty Little Liars, 90210, Jane the Virgin and Scream Queens. His upcoming projects include Monster Party and Starbright.
The Untitled Terminator Project is now due out in theaters November 22, 2019, pushed back a few months.
Some insiders are questioning the delay, but the studios have insisted that this move has nothing to do with 70-year-old star Arnold Schwarzenegger’s recent open-heart surgery.
The tentatively titled, Untitled Terminator Project, now moves from an extremely action-heavy July that will see the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel (July 5), Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick (July 12), Disney’s The Lion King (July 19), and Universal’s Hobbs & Shaw (July 26) to a less crowded November that will feature the releases of Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman 2 (Nov. 1), MGM’s Bond 25 (Nov. 8), and Disney’s Frozen 2 (Nov. 27).
