Tenth Avenue North drummer, Jason Jamison, talks Winter Jam, music and watching ‘Cinderella’

The Winter Jam tour is in full swing across on west coast and Tenth Avenue North drummer Jason Jamison took time out to discuss the tour, Rock the Universe and family time with The Global Dispatch.

Tenth Avenue North“Interesting,” Jamison began, describing the tour, famous for sell out arena crowds. “There are so many great things and things to fight against. (There is) adrenaline, energy with ten bands who become friends. It’s fun.”

But at the same time Jamison says the band seeks way to “connect to every person there” through “after shows, signing lines” and just seeking the example of Jesus who sought out private time with his inner circle while feeding thousands.

“Winter Jam is designed for the family, for the youth group and everyone with a different taste,” he explains. “Rock, rap, worship music – it’s great. It’s electric”

An adjective used before while speaking with The Daily Bulletin as he “pointed to the hard rock sounds of Thousand Foot Krutch then Lecrae who is a rapper or a Newsboys, which he described as ‘crazy fun.’

“Everyone walks away happy and fans of a new band.”

WinterJam 2013Tenth was one of the bands at Rock the Universe in Orlando, Florida, playing their set in the rain.

“Hey, you never know. (We) try to be committed, people will come along for the ride to meet the Lord together and can make something magical.” (more on that story here)

Jamison continues: “It’s so surprising to see fans sing with us, sing to the Lord with us…fans, friends do that with us – just feel honored.”

“Jam Church” is part of the tour, with Pastor Bobby on the road with the ten bands and Jamison explains how they connect with God while on the road.

“Church isn’t just the building as much as it is the community. We are a traveling church, breaking bread together, worshipping and Winter Jam is a massive ‘traveling church.'”

Jamison says he still finds the Tenth Avenue North songs “enjoyable,” “honestly needing to hear them. The lyrics reconnect with me and help me meet the Lord. You don’t feel disconnected.”

Their song “The Struggle” is Jamison’s favorite to play live. “It’s interesting and fun to execute live.”

When asked about his personal favorites and what’s he’s listening to: “All kinds of stuff,” he stated before discussing the new Switchfoot EP (“really enjoying that”) and Foy Vance’s album who communicates his pain and honesty which is “refreshing.”

Jamison is a self-proclaimed family man who enjoys being at home with his wife and kids, “playing, reading books and watching Cinderella over and over again.”
