Don Smith, 57, was found dead by two men walking their dogs near a pond (” in the 3400 block of Lichterman Street”) according to police officials. Smith was the pastor at Prospect Park Baptist Church in Whitehaven.

The Shelby County Medical Examiner’s office said the Smith died from a gunshot wound.

The family says they have no idea who would want to harm or injure the pastor, adding that he was a good pastor and husband, reports WREG.

Police have not made any arrests or provided any insight into potential suspects or suspect descriptions. Sources stated the obvious, the police investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 528-CASH or the Homicide Office at 636-3300.

I feel as if I’ve been kicked in the heart and gut punched at the same time. Pastor Don Smith was a dear friend and a surrogate father to my son, Joshua. We are in shock and horrified by his murder. We will never forget his love and kindness.
