Teen survivor of ISIS kidnapping details rape and forced conversion to Islam

A 15-year-old girl who escaped her Islamic State kidnappers details their forced Islamic teachings or conversions and stated many girls and women were raped.

Known as Aria, the girl tells CNN her tale “”In Mosul they tried to make us change our faith and religion. They said to us, ‘Read our Quran.’ A couple of the girls said, ‘We never went to school — we can’t read.’ I couldn’t understand the Quran.”

Aria was abducted while fleeing their home in Sinjar and was held captive for six weeks. Rumors of ISIS terrorists coming led the family to race away but the vehicle was stopped and the Sunni extremists kidnapped the women.

“They forced us out of the car. The girls and women were separated from the men, including my 19-year-old brother. But they only took the girls, forcing us into a minivan,” Aria said.

When Aria escaped from her captors, she learned that the terrorists had killed her brother.

“That made me very sad. I only had one brother. He was only married for six months. I was sad to hear this. They killed him and other men when they took me. They shot him in the head. My mother slept next to my brother’s body all night,” she said in the Sept. 23 article.

The article details some of the horrors, noting she’s been traumatized. “A lot of my friends were raped. It’s hard to talk about it…

“I see their faces all the time,” Aria said. “I have nightmares. I can’t stop thinking about how they forced themselves onto the girls. I have seen and been through too much.”
