Tanya Lawrence, Danielle Lawrence identified in NY murder suicide, killed by Thomas Calhoun
Police identified the three people dead in a double murder-suicide on Long Island Monday. Suffolk County police say Sunday night Thomas Calhoun shot his girlfriend, Tanya Lawrence, and her 7-year-old daughter Danielle Lawrence before killing himself.
Reportedly Tanya, 43, was breaking it off with Calhoun, 44, who was enraged by the ending of his relationship with his girlfriend and the scene turned sinister Sunday evening, around 10p.m.
“It was not good over there,” neighbor Jeremy Simone told the CBS station. “She was trying to throw him out and he didn’t want to go.”
Authorities confirmed the reports and statements from neighbors which described the couple as always fighting and some described Calhoun as “mean.”
Officers responded after receiving a 911 call of a gunshot victim at the location. Neighbors told CBS that the other daughter, a ninth grader, managed to escape and call police.”
The police discovered a rifle and an illegal handgun from the bloody crime scene.
Calhoun had been dating Lawrence for several months and has multiple arrests for DWI.
School officials in Riverhead said they had no idea about Danielle Lawrence’s troubled home life.
“We are devastated as a high school and as a community,” Danielle’s teacher said in a statement to ABC 7. “She was a sweet, caring young girl, and we all knew she would do great things in life. It’s a tragedy that’s so hard to put into words.”
