Syria: Overcoming persecution, thousands are coming to Christ as the gospel is shared
According to the Christian Telegraph, thousands of Muslim Syrians are coming to Christ through the ministry and relief aid of Christian Aid Mission.
Representatives from partner ministries in Turkey, Iraq, and Lebanon spoke out about the conversions, and their hopes for the future according to Assist News Service.
“In our country hundreds of people have accepted the Messiah,” Turkey’s representative shared; and the Lebanon representative reported, “I would say there are thousands in Syria and the surrounding countries that are becoming Christians.”
When asked if many of the conversions were taking place because people are simply desirous of food and shelter, representatives had mixed thoughts.
Lebanon and Turkey seemed fairly certain that some “rice Christians” are merely seeking help, but Iraq’s spokesperson confidently said, “No, we make sure that the decision is made willingly, without putting any pressure on the person.”
The article notes: “Their gospel workers have done far more than hand out blankets and bags of groceries. They listened as a young widow with children described the day a stray bullet flew through their kitchen window in Syria and struck her husband in the head. They consoled a 15-year-old orphan and helped him find safe passage into Eastern Europe, where he can receive an education. Others have sat shivering with refugee families in their threadbare tents as they offered prayers for God to restore their once beautiful country.”
In Iraq 2,000-,5000 were estimated as converted as the Turkey rep described what is now taking place.
“Women taking their scarves off, letting their kids join the Bible lessons. People don’t let their kids learn a belief they don’t accept, since kids are ready to learn easily and giving up some habits in their lives, like drugs and lying. And they confess their sins.”
