‘Suicide Squad’ update: Jared Leto reveals he practiced the Joker laugh on strangers
Jared Leto has made reputation of immersing himself into roles and losing forty pounds to take home the Oscar for his role in Dallas Buyers Club proved that out and now the Chapter 27 star will take on playing the Joker in Suicide Squad. Leto appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box and talked about playing the Batman villain, beginning with the voice.
“I worked on the laugh walking around the streets of New York and Toronto, and I kinda would walk around the streets and see what laughs would get under people’s skin,” Leto told the hosts of CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
When co-star Jai Courtney, who plays Captain Boomerang, spoke to MTV about Leto’s role he said, “I don’t know how you measure that these days. I haven’t seen him, since we started working, out-of-character, let’s put it that way.”
Director David Ayer (Fury) helms the DC Comics adaptation centering on the most insane and dangerous villains gathered by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) for an impossible mission.
Suicide Squad hits theaters on Aug. 5.
