‘Suicide Squad’ smashes August box office records, now over $300 million globally
Despite mediocre reviews and strong criticisms from many fanboys, Suicide Squad jumped out to a great start, earning over $65 million in the opening weekend and now crossing over $300 million globally.
The opening day number leapfrogs the previous August debut record holder, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which debuted with $94.3M in 2014.
The opening box office number also marks the largest of Will Smith’s career, an actor once known as Mr. Summer Blockbuster during the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
The film earned another $132M from 57 international territories during the first weekend, raising the worldwide gross to $267.1M.
The Wednesday box office number puts the film over $304 million with another strong weekend predicted.
Directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Common, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Karen Fukuhara, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ben Affleck, Scott Eastwood, Jay Hernandez and Ike Barinholtz.
