‘Suicide Squad’: Jai Courtney talks Captain Boomerang, Jackie Earle Haley rumors
While promoting Insurgent Jai Courtney spoke about his role in Suicide Squad and playing the villain Captain Boomerang, first my discussing the costume.
“I’ve had a few fittings, but the costume is in development as we speak,” he teased. “It’s not going to look like anything that’s been done before, and I think this whole world will look a lot different than anything else.”
Director “David Ayer is developing a great voice, and it’s interesting to see his first foray into this type of genre, where he isn’t grounded in reality. The biggest draw to this project was being able to work with him. I talked to a lot of the guys who were in Fury and his process just fascinated me. He sounds like a demanding director but he’ll always be there for his cast if they’re putting in the work for him. I’ve been training since before Christmas for the role and I’m really looking forward to it. We’ve been meeting to go over fighting and weapon work. Seeing the cast in Toronto in a couple of weeks will be really cool.”
Courtney was then asked about starring in The Flash with Ezra Miller, but he dodged the details. “I’m not withholding anything, but that is a dialogue that hasn’t been opened yet,” he said to IGN.
Jackie Earle Hayley (Watchmen, Robocop) could be playing an incarnation of The Thinker. From the comics, Clifford DeVoe; a genius inventor who harnessed his intellect as a weapon using his “Thinking Cap.” DeVoe was a member of the Injustice Society and the Suicide Squad after starting out as a Flash villain.
“Do you mind if I eat a little? I’m trying to gain a lot of weight. It means I have to eat every couple of hours — and I’m terrible at eating a lot,” Jared Leto began when speaking on playing Joker in the film during an interview with Billboard.
In the interview, Leto expressed his admiration over The Joker’s character thus making him want to do his best.
“The opportunity to take on this nearly Shakespearean character — that’s what graphic novels and comic books are becoming, right? [He’s] this beautiful disaster of a character — what a big challenge.”
Suicide Squad will also star Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis with Jesse Eisenberg rumored to make an appearance. The film arrives in theaters August 5, 2016.
