‘Suicide Squad’ cast: Will Smith is Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flag
Warner Bros has confirmed Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie for its DC Comics villain team Suicide Squad, and has set Jared Leto to play The Joker, Jai Courtney to play Boomerang and Cara Delevingne to play Enchantress. The film will be directed by avid Ayer.
“Smith plays Deadshot, Hardy Rick Flagg and Robbie Harley Quinn. Most of these were reported on. Not in the studio announcement is whether Jesse Eisenberg brings his Batman V Superman villain Lex Luthor to the DC cavalcade,” reports Deadline.
“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one,” said Greg Silverman, president, creative development and worldwide production, in the announcement.
“David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”
According to Variety, Viola Davis (The Help), Octavia Spencer (Snowpiercer), and Oprah Winfrey (The Butler) are all being eyed, with the Oprah said to be the top choice.
With a working title of “Bravo 14”, pre-production is set to begin in February at Pinewood Toronto Studios. Filming itself will apparently take place in and around Toronto from mid-April to September added The Hollywood Reporter.
“Pic is a Dirty Dozen-type mission movie where a group of supervillains are brought together to tackle high-risk black ops missions for the government,” summarizes Deadline.
Suicide Squad arrives in theaters on August 5, 2016.
