Steven Spielberg, Chris Hemsworth, Anne Hathaway can’t save ‘Robopocalypse,’ film cancelled
Steven Spielberg’s science fiction action film was set to star Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Avengers, Cabin in the Woods) alongside Anne Hathaway, who played Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. Now Friday’s report indicates that the DreamWorks project is being shelved.
UPDATE: Spielberg is assuring fans the film project is not completely dead.
Here’s a quote from EW:
We found that the film was costing a lot of money and I found a better way to tell the story more economically but also much more personally. I found the personal way into Robopocalypse, and so I just told everybody to go find other jobs, I’m starting on a new script and we’ll have this movie back on its feet soon.
The production was set with distribution from Fox and Disney, coming to theaters in 2014,but now is being postponed for an indefinite time.
Based on the 2011 book by Daniel H. Wilson, Robopocalypse would have reunited Fox and Spielberg, who worked together on 2002′s Minority Report.
Spielberg spokesman Marvin Levy said the project was “too important and the script is not ready, and it’s too expensive to produce. It’s back to the drawing board to see what is possible.”
