Steve Carell not scheduled to return for finale of ‘The Office,’ cameo possible says NBC Exec

“The Office” will conclude with season 9 and an appearance by Steve Carell is still the topic of conversation from fans.

Steve Carell as Michael Scott in The Office Deadline reports that NBC Exec Bob Greenblatt shut that door on Sunday.

“We’re hopeful but I don’t think (Carell) will. He left in the way he wanted to leave, and he and Greg talked about it, and I don’t think he will. There’s maybe a little Hail Mary pass on a cameo, but I think the decision would be compromising his schedule.”

Back in August developer/executive producer Greg Daniels was hopeful that the final season and especially the series finale, would feature original central character Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell.

“We certainly wish Michael Scott would return,” Daniels said at the time. “But we’re not going to put pressure on Steve to write something only he could do.”
