Stephen Moyer discusses ‘The Parting Glass,’ moving to the director role, the motivation of grief

True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer will make his feature directorial debut with The Parting Glass, a project which will star Anna Paquin, also from True Blood. During a panel at MegaCon in Orlando, Moyer talked about moving behind the camera.

“Well as some of you might know, I helped direct some of the episodes on True Blood. One day in set, I actually saw Denis O’Hare in a scene and immediately felt that he would play my lead in the first feature I direct,” The Gifted star explained.

“Two weeks in, Dennis’ sister passed away and watching how they handle grief and I am very passionate on how a family comes together inspired this film. It’s a very low budget film but I’m very excited for it’s premier on June 24th” (at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.)

The Parting Glass also stars Ed Asner, Cynthia Nixon, Melissa Leo, Rhys Ifans and Paul Gross. O’Hare wrote the drama, which follows a family reeling with their sister’s death. They embark on a journey to collect the remnants of her life. The family members delve into past memories to piece together a portrait of the woman they lost. Production took place in Toronto.

Paquin will produce with Moyer through their CASM Films banner, with Cerise Hallam and Mark Larkin, and O’Hare. Dan Beckerman of Scythia Films will executive produce and Lauren Grant of Clique Pictures will co-produce.

William G. Santor and Andrew Chang-Sang of Productivity Media are financing and will also produce, with Concourse handling WW sales and Matthew Shreder and James Andrew Felts also exec producing.

This is a great cast. The subject matter is personal, with a commonality to all of us. I am delighted that this is Stephen Moyer’s directorial debut. All in all a definite must-see.
