Steaming Movies: Its Impact in this Day and Age

Without a doubt, the internet has brought a lot of perks with it. An average user of the World Wide Web spends lots of time watching YouTube videos, Vine clips, Netflix videos as well as other forms of streaming media. For instance, according to research, more than six billion hours of YouTube videos are watched every month. Over a hundred million internet users watch streaming media every day. But in the beginning, this was not the case.

There was a time when the world revolved around the VHS tape. That was when you were expected to “Rewind” the tape so that you can watch a movie or music using the video machine player. But with time, the world switched to the use of compact disks or the digital video disk, DVD. In both eras, you may have to drive to the nearest video rental shop to check out the latest movie releases or rent old favorites.

Do you remember movies such as “Coming to America,” “Child’s Play,” “Home Alone,” etc.?

As the years progressed, however, and as technology improved, the world moved from checking out movies in a brick and mortar store to streaming videos, pay-per-view, and instant downloads.

Streaming movies, music, and television shows replaced the cumbersomeness of visiting your local video rental shop and finding out that the movie you targeted had been checked out. It was super convenient, allowing you to watch any streamed media instantly and wherever you are, as long as you have an excellent internet connection.

When the era of streaming media began, people were not so keen on listening to or watching anything. At the time, data flow was sluggish, thus taking much longer to reach a computer than for it to play. The media would then start loading in bits, fits, and starts. It was infuriating and quite discouraging.

But as in all things, technology improved significantly, allowing today’s internet users to have a steady flow of data, thanks to stable internet service. You can watch a movie via streaming media without any delay or annoying pauses.

One of the top online video streaming services today is Netflix. It is a subscription-based service that offers three different plans – Basic, Standard, and Premium – to its subscribers. Each of these options come with unlimited streaming of TV shows, and movies and fees for using this service are charged monthly.

What makes Netflix endearing to thousands of their subscribers around the world is that their subscribers can watch movies on the go via their smart devices, e.g., smartphones, tablets, phablets, etc. Subscribers can also view their favorite movies on their computers as well as via their video consoles, e.g., Xbox One.

Amazon Prime Instant Video is another topnotch movie streaming service, but available only to Amazon Prime members. If you shop on the largest e-commerce website on the internet, Amazon.com, you can get exceptional value for the video streaming service. Amazon Prime Instant Video also offer similar services like Netflix. The only advantage this movie-streaming service has over Netflix is that users can buy downloadable movies or rent movies that are not free.

Other exceptional movie streaming services are Movies123, Hulu, Showbox, etc.

The impact of streaming movies has transformed the way people around the world get content. Everything is now at your fingertips, thanks to advanced technology and the innovative mobile devices continually hitting the market on a daily basis. It also makes those long and tedious commutes tolerable for most users.
