Star Wars Celebration VI transformed Orange County Convention Center
Over 30,000 fans in over 750,000 square feet of Star Wars excitement as Star Wars Celebration VI delivered wall-to-wall fanboy excitement. From massive displays, detailed setups for photos and a long list of Star Wars celebrities, fans had a lengthy menu of choices to entertain every fan for four days.
Entering the Orange County Convention Center on Thursday, fans were greeted with giant banners and a massive Death Star which hung from the ceiling. At the top of the first set of escalators was Celebration banners featuring some of the most popular characters: Yoda, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.
“I really enjoy seeing old friends that we’ve known for years. Some we only get to see at these shows,” Matt Erickson told The Global Dispatch on Saturday. “That, for me, is a highlight. You see people from all over the world.”
Erickson is the President of the Ohio Star Wars Collectors Club and traveled with friends from Cincinnati for the four day festival.
Travel across the convention and you’d discover a life-sized AT-AT occupying the lobby area with countless troopers posing with fans.
A Ford Raptor SVT headlined a list of Star Wars road vehicles decorated to pay homage to Star Wars. The incredible graphic design and artwork on the Raptor even drew the attention of George Lucas who autographed the truck on Saturday.
Posing with a Jawa and Sandtrooper on a faux Tatooine set, climbing inside the cockpit of a Snowspeeder or grabbing a bone to battle the Rancor, fans had a vast array of amazing photo opportunities this weekend.
One teenage girl passed by proclaiming: “Take a picture Dad, so when I get a car it can look like that!”
The Star Wars legacy continues and this weekend’s event fuels the excitement until the next event.
