‘Star Trek Discovery’ adds ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ star Michelle Yeoh
Fans are ecstatic for Star Trek‘s highly-anticipated return to TV with Star Trek Discovery and now the cast is getting added after the exit of showrunner Bryan Fuller. International action star Michelle Yeoh is set to star in Discovery in an unknown role and fans will be thrilled.
In an interview with ComingSoon, writer Meyer revealed that Yeoh had been cast. Yeoh is a popular pick, praised for her role as Yu Shu Lien in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which she reprised earlier this year in the Netflix sequel Sword of Destiny.
Meyer did not reveal which role Yeoh would take on, but she seems a natural fit for the previously revealed lead character, referred to as “Number One”, who will be a female, human, non-captain Starfleet officer.
Yeoh also stars on the Netflix series Marco Polo and appeared in Morgan and Mechanic: Resurrection this year. Mainstream fans will also recognize Yeoh as Bond girl Wai Lin in Tomorrow Never Dies opposite Pierce Brosnan.
Discovery was marred by the exit of Fuller, but the remaining creative team is intact with executive producers Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts.
Fuller previously revealed that he and fellow executive producer Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote the 2009 Star Trek feature film as well as Star Trek Into Darkness, co-wrote the first episode of Star Trek Discovery. Meyer is a popular addition to the franchise, credited with writing Star Trek films: Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, and The Undiscovered Country.
Star Trek Discovery is scheduled to premiere on CBS All Access May 2017.
