‘Star Trek 4’ details: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto to return as Kirk and Spock, Chris Hemsworth may have a role

Paramount officially registered a temporary title called “Star Trek 4” with the Motion Picture Association of America, while securing Star Trek Beyond leads Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as Kirk and Spock.

While nothing is official, there is no reason to believe John Cho, Zoe Saldana or Simon Pegg will be absent.

According to Trek Movie, Pegg, who co-wrote Beyond, mentioned that this year’s film will not be a trilogy-ender.

Slash Film also reported that despite the upcoming “Star Trek” movie is still to come in – in more than a couple of months – it is not new to the industry to prepare in advance for an anticipated follow up, especially for hit franchise like Star Trek.

Moreover, while no role is confirmed, it was interesting that Chris Hemsworth would speak out about the pitch idea for Trek 4, likely pointing to a return as Kirk’s father, George.

“I’ve spoken to J.J. Abrams, and he has an amazing pitch on the whole thing,” he told MTV around the Golden Globes. This raises another question: could Abrams be back as well?

When asked how this reunion between the late George Kirk and the living James T. Kirk would happen, the actor could only say, “I honestly don’t know.”

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly at the Comic-Con 2016 screening of Star Trek Beyond, Abrams offered up high praise for Star Trek 4‘s story:

So one of the reasons that I’m hoping [Star Trek Beyond] does well is so that we can, without question, get that movie made. It really is an amazing story. It’s really the reason we made the deal with Chris Hemsworth as soon as we could because we really wanted that story to be told, so fingers crossed.

Entertainment Weekly also tried to grill Chris Pine about what’s going on in Star Trek 4, but Kirk himself is totally in the dark:

I have no idea, I have no idea. J.J. hasn’t really told me anything. But I’m looking forward to it, I love Chris, I think he’s fantastically talented. We had a great time on the first one. … It’ll be a blast.
