The Spanish news source, Teinteresa reports (computer translated), the patient is progressing favorably from the clinical point of view while health officials attempt to determine what is causing his illness. Samples have been taken to rule out EVD and is currently being  tested at the National Centre of Microbiology.

Spain Minister of Health, Manuel Llombart said the patient showed nasal bleeding and other Ebola-like symptoms en route to Spain. The Spain Report notes the patient is a man from Guinea Conakry, the epicenter of the current EVD outbreak in West Africa.

Llombart wanted to send a message to the public to stay calm over this situation saying it does not involve “any risk to the public” because the protocols are followed for such situations.

“We very much hope that the outcome of the analysis is negative, but if positive, the protection of the population is guaranteed” and the patient will receive treatment, he said.

The Ebola outbreak in West Africa (Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia) currently tallies at 599 cases and 338 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), who has been on the frontlines of the EVD outbreak, says the epidemic is out of control and calling it “unprecedented” in terms of geographical distribution and the numbers of cases and deaths.
