South Carolina: Calvin Benson attempts to rob restaurant, shot twice by employee Antwain Motin
A South Carolina man was treated for two gunshots wounds before being taken to a detention center and charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon, says Greenville County deputies.
Calvin Jequan Benson, age 22, left the Wings on the Run restaurant was shot twice by an employee when he attempted to rob the place Thursday evening, around 10pm.
Benson pulled a gun on co-owner Stephanie Evans when he employee acted.
That employee, Antwain Motin, says he saw his chance to survive as he was worried about himself and the owner.
“He kind of took his eyes off me for like two seconds and I was able to run to the back,” Motin told Fox Carolina.
“After I shot him, he kind of shimmied a little bit like he was falling or whatever and took off,” Motin said. “I was thinking about her protection as well as my protection.”
Benson ran away and the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office informing the investigating officers that a gunshot victim showed up at the nearby hospital with two gunshot wounds.
Deputy Drew Pinciaro told WHNS-TV that they were able to identify Benson as the robbery suspect.
Benson was transported to the Greenville County Detention Center and charged with attempted armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
