South Africa: ANC Parliament member, Crosby Moni, succumbs to malaria
African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament (MP) and former deputy president of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), Crosby Moni died Sunday after contracting malaria after a recent visit to Mozambique.

“We are deeply pained by the loss of such an experienced politician, a humble people’s servant and an outstanding activist,” said Moloto Mothapo, spokesperson for the office of the ANC Chief Whip.
“Comrade Moni’s political activism cut across the entire revolutionary tripartite alliance, having held leadership positions within all the structures of the alliance formations,” Mothapo said.
The NUM tweeted about Moni’s death this morning saying, “The NUM is deeply saddened by the passing away of it’s former deputy president comrade Crosby Moni.
“Cde Moni was humble and loyal to the struggle of the country and for the Mine. construction and energy workers.
“Comrade Moni was always at the forefront of the struggle to liberate black mineworkers from the capitalists.”
Moni joined Parliament in 2011 and represented the constituency of Benoni, on the East Rand.
Crosby Moni was listed as a Central Committee Member on the committee of the South African Communist Party. This party is a partner in the Tripartite Alliance, which includes the African National Congress and the Congress of Congress of South African Trade Unions
Moni is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.
