Sinkhole at Corvette Museum destroys 8 vintage cars including ZR-1 Spyder and Blue Devil
STRANGE NEWS EXAMINER: A massive sinkhole opened up in Bowling Green, Kentucky Wednesday morning, swallowing up 8 collector Corvettes.
The National Corvette Museum issued a press release on Wednesday, explaining just what happened and which models of cars were lost. According to the museum, their security company contacted them at 5:44 am because an alarm was going off in the Skydome area of the museum. Upon arrival at teh museum, it was discovered that a massive sinkhole opened up, swallowing 8 cars, two of which that were on loan from General motors and another six that were owned by the museum.
The museum sadly announced the cars that were lost earlier today. They include:
- 1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors
- 2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors
- 1962 Black Corvette
- 1984 PPG Pace Car
- 1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette
- 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette
- 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette
- 2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette
The fire department arrived and estimate the hole to be as large as 40 feet across and 25-30 feet deep.
The 8 Corvettes were among as many as 30 other cars at the freestanding Skydome building.
The total cost of the vehicles lost has not been calculated as of yet.
