Simon Kinberg talks ‘The Fantastic Four,’ delays on details for ‘character driven’ film
Fans are anxiously awaiting a look at The Fantastic Four, a teaser, a few pics, something to fuel the fan frenzy. Now creator Simon Kinberg attempts to explain the delay.
“We’re putting it together now,” says Kinberg to Comicbook.com, “and one of the important things, because this Fantastic Four is a reboot, and is such a different tonality and vibe from those other films, we want to make sure that the first thing we put out really expresses the voice of the movie, and isn’t compromised by not having visual effects ready, or anything like that.”
Kinberg promises this is a more “character-driven” piece than fans might have been expecting.
“I’ve seen all the footage from the movie,” says Kinberg during the interview with Comicbook.com. “I was there for pretty much the whole shoot. It is a very different film from the others, and one that I think is very different from other superhero movies. It’s a very emotional, character-driven, more grounded film than I think people are anticipating.”
All that aside, Fox needs to prime the pump and drop a teaser poster, a logo, something that can keep FF in the forefront of comic book talk.
Directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle) and starring Kate Mara, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell as the title characters with Toby Kebbell playing Doctor Doom. The new film may serve to surprise fans with major changes to the origins, pulling more from Ultimate Fantastic Four than the traditional Marvel history.
The Fantastic Four opens in theaters on August 7, 2015.
