Sigourney Weaver confirms three sequels to Avatar, all filmed at the same time
20th Century Fox is pressing James Cameron for a sequel to ” Avatar,” thehighest grossing film of all time.
While the director hasn’t started the project, it appears he may be preparing to film three sequels, all at the same time.
Showbiz 411 recently spoke with star Sigourney Weaver, who broke the news that the three “Avatar sequels” are in the near future:
She goes right into a new Christopher Durang play for a short run at Lincoln Center. Then she films Avatar 2, 3, and 4 with James Cameron. That’s right: they’re making three sequels to the blue 3D phenom all at the same time. Weaver says she has no idea how long it will take, or how it’s going to work. “I just show up,” she said.
Details were reported that Cameron was going to focus on nothing but Avatar, led to some speculation that “Avatar 2” and “Avatar 3” were confirmed, but now “Avatar 4” appears likely.
“I’m making Avatar, Avatar 2, Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4, and I’m not going to produce other people’s movies for them. I’m not interested in taking scripts. And that all sounds I suppose a little bit restricted, but the point is I think within the Avatar landscape I can say everything I need to say that I think needs to be said, in terms of the state of the world and what I think we need to be doing about it. And doing it in an entertaining way. And anything I can’t say in that area, I want to say through documentaries, which I’m continuing.”
No release dates yet, but 2014 appears more and more probable for the first film.
