‘Sherlock’ season 4 one-off could be happening says ‘Hobbit’ star Martin Freeman
News landed that the fourth season of “Sherlock” is likely to be pushed back a bit, but Martin Freeman teased a new episode while promoting his new show “Fargo.” Speaking to Alan Carr, the actor said writers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have come up with a ‘fantastic’ plan for reuniting Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson.
“Mark Gatiss may beat me up,” Freeman added, “but there is an idea for this one-off special that’s such a good idea, and as I was listening to it I thought ‘we’ve just got to do this’. And I don’t know when we are going to be able to do it, unfortunately…”
“Steven and Mark have a great idea for something we could do next which they told [Cumberbatch] and I. It’s a fantastic, really mouth-watering idea,” Freeman said. “But I really don’t know when we are going to get to do it. I’m up for it – I’m ready – but it’s getting planes to land in order. We just all need to be ready at the same time.”
Everyone points to the schedules of Cumberbatch and Watson, but there is much more to the equation.
“It’s not only us two, it’s Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, the writers and creators, we are all very busy. So in all honesty, and I’m not being cute here, I don’t know…I’m not even being coy,’ the actor said. ‘I just don’t know when it’s going to happen. I don’t know what it’s going to involve apart from this one central idea which is a possible.”
Freeman was on the show to talk about his new TV series “Fargo,” based on the Coen Brothers movie of the same name. Sherlock fans were left with a major cliffhanger at the end of season 3: Moriarty returns.
Billy Bob Thornton stars with Freeman, Colin Hanks, Allison Tolman, Kate Walsh, Adam Goldberg and Oliver Platt.
