Shemar Moore confirmed for ‘Criminal Minds’ appearance, airs October 25
S.W.A.T. star Shemar Moore is set for a guest spot on CBS’ Criminal Minds to reprise his role as fan favorite Derek Morgan. He’ll appear in the fifth episode which airs Wednesday, October 25 at 10 PM on CBS.
Moore was an original Criminal Minds cast member from 2005-2016, a key figure within the story arcs on the show. Moore last appeared in the season 12 finale last spring. He left the show last March after 11 seasons and 252 episodes.
New broke on Twitter, evoking Morgan’s famous nickname for his co-star: “Get excited Baby Girls! Shemar Moore returns to guest star in upcoming #CriminalMinds episode: http://bit.ly/2z3PyO6 ”
Since leaving the show, Moore starred as Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson on CBS’ S.W.A.T.
When we last saw Morgan, he had survived a harrowing kidnapping and was leaving the BAU to focus on life and family. In the new Criminal Minds episode, Morgan returns to help Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) deal with a case that has affected her emotionally.
Criminal Minds stars Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler, Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez and Daniel Henney. Mark Gordon, Erica Messer and Breen Frazier are executive producers for ABC Studios in association with CBS Television Studios.
At the time of his exit from the show, Moore compared Criminal Minds to college for acting, and said he wanted to move on to life after college.
“I’d seen other actors out there in the business getting these opportunites that I would love a chance,” he told E! News. “What I’m fighting for in my life, and more specifically in my career, is that shot. I’m very happy with what I’ve accomplished, but I want to take another step. I’m just hungry like that. I want to see what else I can do.”
That said, he admitted the door to the BAU was never totally closed.
“I’m not opposed to those doors opening up again,” he said. “Now, it may not be permanently, and it may not be for a full season, but if there’s an opportunity to go back and dance and play, I wouldn’t be opposed to that.”
