‘Sharknado’ Riffed by ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ creators ahead of ‘Sharknado 2’ premiere

Sharknado movie posterMystery Science Theater highlighted what many fans thought and felt over the years and Sharknado is the latest film to skewered by Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett. RiffTrax Live, presented by Fathom Events, proved to be just the fun night fans needed ahead of SyFy’s sequel to the cult film: Sharknado 2: The Second One.

Nelson, Murphy and Corbett don’t reprise their MST3000 roles of Mike, Tom Servo and Crooooowww. They now crack on the Sharknado from the the historic State Theater in Minneapolis. The trio destroy Ian Ziering and Tara Reid’s epic performances, epically bad, in a horrible SyFy original film.

The trio never stop entertaining the audience with their wise cracks and comments which mirror the thoughts of many viewers. Kevin Murphy said in an interview ahead of the night’s performance: “It’s a ridiculously dumb movie, which makes it more challenging, since we don’t want to go for the obvious jokes. What we’ve got is really damn funny.”

Yes it is.

Of course, it would have been great to have Mike and Servo going back and forth, but the jokes are great.

Like other Fathom Events, it’s such a great way to enjoy fan favorites or live performances around the globe. This success has fueled the needed funds to keep more RiffTrax coming (Starship Troopers sounds like a lock according to Murphy, with Twilight still the Holy Grail.)

Don’t miss out on the Sharknado RiffTrax set for July 15 – more information, tickets etc.. HERE

SyFy certainly doesn’t mind as they are cashing in on the cult phenomenom with a sequel, video game and a book.

“Forget the umbrella. Grab a chainsaw.”

Sharknado 2 is set inNew York as Vivica A. Fox also appears as a new complication to the Ian Ziering and Tara Reid love story. Kelly Osbourne, Mark McGrath, Billy Ray Cyrus, Judah Friedlander, Andy Dick, and Judd Hirsch also star.

Sharknado 2 premieres on SyFy July 30.
