Search begins after Texas tornadoes, death toll at six VIDEO
Authorities are warning that the death toll could rise as rubble searched after approximately 10 tornado strikes hit the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Six people were reportedly killed by the tornado which devastated a Habitat for Humanity neighborhood.
Authorities warned the death toll could rise because seven people were missing after the storms, which struck from early evening to around dusk, flattening buildings and uprooting trees across at least four counties near the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Storm chasers 40 miles west of Fort Worth braved the weather to capture dramatic video of a tornado touchdown. (see below)
The community of Granbury, located west of Dallas, saw the most damage, with homes in two neighborhoods obliterated.
As many as 100 people were injured as the EF-4 twister packing winds up to 200 miles per hour whipped through.
“Most of that subdivision is heavily damaged to totally destroyed,” Sheriff Roger Deeds of Hood County, Texas, said.
“You could feel it was real calm and all of a sudden, you could just like a vacuum whoah… what’s going on,” one storm survivor recalled.
