‘Schumer Shutdown’ ends: ‘Democrats put illegal aliens before’ our military, says Liberty Counsel

The Democratic-led shutdown of the government ended. Democrat Minority Leader Chuck Schumer reversed his blockade of the Continuing Resolution that would continue to allow the federal government to operate. The arcane Senate rules require 60 votes before most bills can be voted on, and this rule allowed Democrats to shut down the government. The Senate is divided with 51 Republicans and 49 Democrats. Led by Schumer, forty-four of the forty-nine Democrats voted to shut down the government, thus preferring illegal immigrants over our men and women in the military and children under the CHIP insurance program.

The shutdown was due to protests from U.S. Senate Democrats demanding that illegal immigrants who came to American while children be allowed to stay. Specifically, the Democrats were demanding the continuation of an unlawful action by former President Barack Obama called the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” or DACA, which President Donald Trump planned to end unless Congress came up with a permanent fix by early March. Legal observers predicted that the Obama DACA policy was about to be struck down by a federal court. Democrats were holding hostage paychecks for men and women in the military and their families. The Democrats also hijacked and blocked funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program known as CHIP.

“The Democrats were willing to put illegal aliens before our men and women in the military who sacrifice their lives to protect America. The ‘Schumer Shutdown’ is repulsive, and the vast majority of Americans reject this kind of low politics. Our soldiers should not be pawns and bargaining chips to Senate Democrats,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel Action.
“Those who put their lives on the line to protect our nation from enemies foreign and domestic should not have to worry about missing a mortgage payment because of Democratic partisan politics in Washington. Democrats like to talk about caring about healthcare and children and our country, but when given a choice they chose to pander to a radical agenda. The American people see through the smoke and mirrors,” said Staver.
Nearly 60 percent of Americans did not want a government shutdown over DACA. Also, 60 percent did not want the children affected by DACA to give priority to family members. About 80 percent of Americans think that immigration should be based on skills and 80 percent also want secure borders.
In December 2010, the U.S. Senate with a Democrat majority failed to pass the DACA. At which time, five Democrat senators voted against the bill, including current Senator John Tester of Montana, and former Sen. Max Baucus, Sen. Kay Hagan, Sen. Ben Nelson, and Sen. Mark Pryor. Also, current Senator Joe Manchin abstained from voting on it. The blame for the shutdown lies squarely on the backs of Democrats Senators. President Trump said in a tweet, “The Democrats are turning down services and security for citizens in favor of services and security for non-citizens.”
