Globally, from September 2012 to date, WHO has been informed of a total of 55 laboratory-confirmed cases of infection with MERS-CoV, including 31 deaths.

In Saudi Arabia, this case represents the 40th MERS-CoV case and the 25th fatality associated with the new virus, by far most reported from any country.

The WHO says they have  received reports of laboratory-confirmed cases originating in the following countries in the Middle East to date: Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). France, Germany, Italy, Tunisia and the United Kingdom also reported laboratory-confirmed cases; they were either transferred there for care of the disease or returned from the Middle East and subsequently became ill. In France, Italy, Tunisia and the United Kingdom, there has been limited local transmission among patients who had not been to the Middle East but had been in close contact with the laboratory-confirmed or probable cases.

According to the Saudi Arabia MOH, based on the cases discovered up till now, the symptoms have included fever, and cough, that may be accompanied by suffocation and difficulty in respiration. The symptoms may worsen to include acute and fatal respiratory disease.

According to the limited information which is available so far, there is no yet accurate scientific evidence identifying the way through which the virus can be transmitted from one person to another. But, there are sayings that it’s similar to the other kinds of Coronavirus, which includes the direct contact with patients, direct transmission through droplets expelled from the patient during coughs and sneezes or indirect transmission through touching surfaces and devices contaminated with the virus, and then touching the mouth, nose or eyes.
